From Carrie on the Internet on January 3, 2008:

Karl, I was able to take some time to finish your new book today. I purchased it in Lufkin at Starbuck's and had you sign it for my cousin who lost her son in Iraq this past January. I really enjoyed the story and I think she will also. Thank you so much for your service to our country and for helping the soldiers who are fighting for us now.

Can't wait for the next one,

Carrie Love

From Sue on the Internet on November 26, 2007:

From Katrina on the Internet on November 20, 2007:

Karl,  Thank you for sending me a book to review. I really couldn’t put it down. The story was great. The only thing I could have wished is that some of the characters to be even more developed. They were all fascinating but I found myself wanting to know even more about them. All in all a great read.

I bought your book yesterday at the Camp Mabry PX.  I enjoyed it - a good story line that holds your interest.  I especially like what you are doing with the Wounded Warrior Project.

Best Regards,

Chad

It was a pleasure meeting you and getting/reading Signs of Our Times. I enjoyed the plot and story line very much. Telling my colleagues that the book had terrorists and chimps in it wrought VERY interesting reactions. I encouraged them to get the book to understand it. ;>)

Dear Karl, I just finished reading your book and I find it very good. The characters are so astonishing and interesting and the story is a real thriller. Congratulations! I think if people realize it you must sell a lot of them. I will hand it to my older son, Jochen who asked for it and afterwards also to my younger son, Lutz and I know they will be excited.

I bought your book at the Sami show in Belton in Sept. I found the book interesting and enjoyable. I could definitily tell that it was written by a man and with men in mind. T skiped the detail on how bomb were made and the nearve gas to much detail for me. But the plot kept me interested. I would buy another book written by you so keep it up. See you at the next signing.

From Mary on the Internet on August 4, 2007

Just finished your book and gave it to a friend and fellow reader. I loved the story and fell in love with Sadie. The plot had twists and turns enough to keep me interested but not confused. A scary idea and a terrific ending!! Loved it!!

Maybe we'll see each other on another cruise. Keep writing.

Karl,

I had the pleasure to meet you and buy your book at your book signing in Rockport earlier this summer. I bought the book to give as a gift and ended keeping it for myself. I just finished it and enjoyed it very much. The title truly speaks for itself and its sad that this is the world we now live in. Keep writing as fast as you can, your next few books sound really good and hope one of them well be out by Christmas so I can give them to my reader friends as gifts. Looking forward to seeing you at the next book signing of your new novel.

From Sue in Lancaster, England on July 26, 2007

Hi Karl,

You probably won't remember me but here goes anyway. We met on the monorail between the hotels Luxor and Excaliber in Las Vegas. You spoke to my husband and me during the journey. We were holidaying there celebrating 25 years marriage and you and your wife 50 years. You gave me your card and told us about the book which I ordered as soon as I got home. I have just finished reading it and I enjoyed it very much.  The possible outcomes in the story are truly frightening but I hope that real terrorists are as inept as Hushan and the others. The British police say they have foiled quite a few possible attacks here so maybe they are, but some just get through. I loved the chimps and wonder if this part is based on truth?

I see from the blog you are doing lots of book signings in America.  I hope that's not keeping you from writing book 2!!!!!!!

Hope you remember our very brief but interesting meeting.

From Toby via this website on July 17, 2007

The book was well written, easy to read, and entertaining. However, I found the story line to be improbable and illogical. But then again I am not usually a fiction reader. It was hard to put the book down until I finished. I would recommend the book to others.

from Jeff in Albuquerque, NM in July 9, 2007

MSgt Boyd,
When you were in Albuquerque, my wife purchased your book for me. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your effort. I think your style is similar to Mr. Tony Hillerman. Great reading, like listening to a natural story teller.
Thanks for your efforts at making our world better.

from Lowell in Rockport, Texas on July 6, 2007

Karl,
I finished your book a week ago and found it was a C.P.I.D. type of story - I couldn't put it down - until I finished it from beginning to end. The characters were realistic and their interaction kept me wondering what would happen next. A very timely story line and an unexpected ending.
As with all good novels, I found it fascinating reading, and the story keeps running through my mind like an old friend. Great job.
I'm waiting for your next book.

As Karl stated in his blog on June 4 he sent some books to our troops in Iraq and Afganistan. Here is a response from one soldier whose recieved a package with one of Karl's books.

Thank you so much for the package you sent. I, as well as the troops, appreciate all of your support. I am so thankful to get so much support and prayers from complete strangers. Thank you once again

Received your book and read it in one setting. Very good and exciting. I intend to pass it around to all my friends. I hope the sales go well.

from Patty in North Carolina on June 4, 2007

Karl, I just finished reading your book and I really enjoyed the story. I wanted to let you know I'm looking forward to your next writing. I told my daughter that with all of your travels and fishing I wondered how you had time to write such an entertaining book. She can't wait to read it (this week-end at work).

Take care and let me know when the next book comes out.

from Gerry on June 1, 2007

A Great story told in a refreshing style.

from Glenda in Rockport, on May 26, 2007:

Your novel is marvelous! After reading only the first page, I knew it was going to be an intriguing and unusual story, and I was right! I love the way your dialogue reflects the true manner in which cops and bad guys speak to each other. You definitely have a way with words and know how to use them to the best advantage.

I told my book club members about your book, and we voted to review your novel during July, so we’ll need an additional dozen copies. Don’t let the fact we have thirteen members bother you; it’s not bad luck. Our group is highly motivated and galvanized into action when we hear of such a wonderful work as you have produced.

I’ll let you know the date so you can stop by to speak to our group. Thanks again for a wonderful “read”. I look forward to your next project.

from Alice in Rockport on May 22, 2007

Your novel is totally awesome. I enjoyed every chapter. Finally, a writer who uses the magic of words to portray his characters and scenes so vividly they come to life. The ending was totally unexpected, but I loved it!

Let me know when your next novel comes out. I’ll be standing in line to buy another signed first edition. If anyone needs further persuasion to purchase a copy, tell them to ask Alice at What a Burger in Rockport for her recommendation. It’s a winner!

from Mary Allen on May 20, 2007:

As I read this "fast and furious" novel, in one setting, my adrenaline level rose to explosive heights! What a joy to discover a new author who can weave an exceptional, well constructed plot, which is so significant of the age in which we live.

Looking forward to more adventures and intrigue with Mona and Joe.

from Dr. Jon Romer on May 16, 2007:

It is very difficult for me to find the time to read for enjoyment but it was very difficult for me to lay this tantalizing plot of Texas intrigue down for any length of time.

I am a fan of Dan Brown's novels and find that Karl is every bit the story weaver as he is.

I plan to give a copy to my oldest son who is a Ft.Worth police officer because of the every day law enforcement banter found in the storylines and the local Ft.Worth scenes found in the final chapters.

from Audrey and Harry Rakowski on May 14, 2007

Hello from Chicagoland. We received your book yesterday and it took me two sessions (as the day was busy) but I finished your book. Lots of action and interest. and enjoyed the book immensely. The main character definitely had a way of finding things out from the terrorists. Wish we all could do the same.

Waiting for your next one. If we ever get to Texas or meet you on another cruise you'll have to autograph the book. Keep us posted on your next book. Great work.

Some comments from pre-publication

Dear Karl,

Thank you for allowing me to assist you in editing your novel, "Signs of Our Times". I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and to tell the truth, although I was supposed to be editing it, at times I found myself rushing ahead to see what happened next. I hope I did a good job. If not, I'd love to read it again.

The story is believable and keeps your attention from start to finish.  Recently I've read a rash of  novels who have heroes portrayed as "supermen", able to dodge bullets and leap from helicopters with only a cape and survive against all odds.  It was refreshing to enjoy a book with characters I could relate to.

Thanks again for the chance to be one of the first of many to enjoy your writing.  I look forward to your next novel.

Dear Karl,

When we met on the cruise to Antarctica, I never expected to meet a man who someday would be a famous author. I say that only after having the privilege of being one of the first to read your manuscript for "Signs of Our Times".

I enjoyed the book immensely and if you don't mind, I kept it longer than I intended so my husband, Eddie, could read it. He has heard me sing your praises so many times, he wants to see what I've been so excited about.

Great story line, characters that take on a life of their own, and an unexpected ending - they all make up parts of a splendid achievement. Congratulations!

Keep up the good work. I'll be looking for the final product in our book store or on line. Meeting you and your wife was one of the highlights of our cruise. Let's hope we meet again soon. Keep on writing and if you need a proof reader, I'm always available.
